Tint shades
See Window Tint on a Car
Try each Union Window Films shade on the same car, from 5%, the darkest, to 70%, nearly clear, before you choose.

How to choose your shade
Lower numbers are darker
5% is the darkest shade and 70% is nearly clear. The number is the share of light that gets through the window.
Check the law for the front windows
In Illinois, front side windows can be 35% when nothing behind the driver is darker, or must be 50% or lighter when it is. Our Illinois tint law page has the details.
A light shade can still keep heat out
Union Ceramic keeps heat out with ceramic rather than dark dye, so a lighter shade still blocks infrared heat.
Think about driving at night
Darker shades are harder to see out of at night, so it can make sense to keep the front windows lighter than the back.
Your SUV may already have privacy glass
Most SUVs, trucks and vans have factory privacy glass in the back. Film over it makes it darker still, and the front side windows then need 50% or lighter.

See how dark each shade looks
Tap a shade to see it on the car's glass, darkest on the left. Miguel will help you pick what looks right and stays legal in Illinois.
Picking a shade is easier when you can see it. Try each Union shade on the same car, darkest first, and watch how the glass changes.
The number is how much light the window lets through. Union's shades are 5%, 15%, 20%, 35%, 50% and 70%, from the darkest to nearly clear.
A picture can only show so much. The real look depends on your car's glass, the color inside and the light, so Miguel shows you the films and shades on samples and his heat box before you choose.
35% of the light gets throughToo dark for the front side windows in Illinois. On SUVs, vans and pickups it can go on the windows behind the driver.

When can I roll my windows down after tinting?
Keep them up for 3 to 5 days while the film dries, and wait a week before cleaning the inside of the glass. Use a soft cloth and an ammonia-free cleaner.
